Features & Technical Specifications
You may think the the advantages of Secure File Sharing boils down to cost. It even goes beyond cost. Tape backups cannot be validated without potentially degrading the media. (As soon as you put the head on the tape to validate the data, the tape can become degraded). We do not have that problem. The system performs data validation daily, to ensure that data stored within the backup repository matches the data on the system it was backed up from – all without degrading the quality of the backup.
The fact that we can offsite the data to antoher data center in another city, without the fear of losing tapes in transit (unlike some high profile snafu reported in the news) is also a big plus.
Another advantage is that the resource usage on the target system remains much lower then with tape based backup technologies like CommVault. (We have run backups in middle of the day, on heavily loaded hosting servers, without increasing effective load averages or degrading perceived performance.
